If, for example, you select the <span class="T1">Drawings</span> entry, in the dialog you now only see the drawing documents that <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> can open. <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> assesses this according to the file extension.</p>

<p class="Head2">Open an empty document</p>
<p class="Paragraph">There are several ways of opening an empty document. This is an easy way:</p>
<p class="Paragraph">Short-click the <span class="T1">New</span> icon on the function bar. This opens a document of the document type signified by the icon.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">If you keep the mouse button pressed on the <span class="T1">New</span> icon for a little longer, then a submenu opens in which you can select another document type.</p>
